Ludlow Police shared photos of the animal on their Facebook page, and residents couldn’t get enough of it.
The large mammal was spotted by one of the department’s employees roaming the streets around 9:20 a.m. at the intersection of Chapin and Center Streets, right in front of the Public Safety Center.
“Bullwinkle is looking for Rocky again!” one commenter quipped.
Police tracked the moose to a home off of Center Street, the spokesperson said.
The animal was contained in a backyard by the environmental police around 11 a.m. Having the ability to tranquilize it, a biologist also responded to the scene, according to the spokesperson.
No damage to property has been reported.
Bears and deer have also been spotted a few times there in the past. But the police spokesperson described them as being “skittish” and often only come out to forage through trash cans and bird feeders.
If you see a moose in a densely populated area, the department suggests keeping a safe distance, do not confront it, and report the sighting to authorities.
